The Coming New and Divine Holiness

Angel Protector and Shepherd

"From infancy to death human life is surrounded by their (the angels) watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united to God."
 – From the Catechism of the Catholic Church; 336.

Psalm 37 & Learning to Trust God

"Do you ever find a particular Scripture worming its way into your heart?  Or perhaps it’s a subtle tap-tap-tap.  Maybe, as in my husband’s case, it’s a giant brick hitting you over the head.  No matter, I think it’s safe to assume that most of us have at least one particular verse or portion of …"

The Resurrection: Hallucination or Vision?

"Suppose your ninety-year-old grandmother tells you she sees leprechauns dancing in the butter dish in the cafeteria at her assisted living home. Would you think her perception conforms to objective reality? Or would you think she’s hallucinating? My guess is the latter. Imagine now your grandmother dies, and then a few days later you see …

Fatima, Faustina and Two Powerful Prayers of Reparation

Sometime during the summer of 1916, the Angel of Portugal appeared to three shepherd children at Fatima and spoke the following words: “Offer prayers and sacrifices constantly to the Most High… Make of everything you can a sacrifice, and offer it to God as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is …

Our Lord's Friend Request

Image result for friend request

We are totally dependent on Our Lord.  We can do nothing without Him.

Jesus Christ is always asking us to 'friend him'.  Every moment he is sending us a 'friend request'.
Over and over and over again.  He never tires of asking.

How many answer yes?  How many 'friend him'?  How many just 'delete' his request?

And yet, in our need, when we send him a 'friend request', he is SO quick to respond that he answers before we even click the 'send button'.

He is always ready and anxious to be our friend.
He wants to 'friend' the whole world and he is always glad to receive our 'friend request'.

Our loving Lord does not have a 'reject' or 'delete' button.

Called to Be Martyrs

"Originally, the martyrs were simply witnesses to Christ. That’s in keeping with the meaning of the Greek word for martyr, martys (pronounced: mar’-toos), which was the technical term for a witness at a legal trial. In the New Testament, one of the earliest occurrences of the word is in Acts 1:8, where a soon-to-ascend Christ …

Sharing in God’s Eternity

Eternity is not an extension or an expansion of time.

Eternity is the end of time.

Sharing in God’s Eternity

"When I was young, even three and four years old, I used to cry at night thinking about death and eternity. It was a feeling as if the wind has gotten knocked out of me and a huge weight was being pressed upon me. Even now, a feeling of terror can come over me when …"

St. Padre Pio: A Fountain of God’s Healing

Just about everyone has heard of Padre Pio, the Italian stigmatic whose death at age eighty-one on September 23, 1968, was even reported by the New York Times. The biographies that sell steadily year after year, including one by the author written with help from Pio’s friary, are crammed with accounts from people whose medically …

God Loves the World

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” These must be the most recognized words of the gospel in the United States. We see John 3:16 everywhere: on bumper stickers, t-shirts, in the eye black under Tim Tebow’s eyes. …

St. Thérèse, St. John Paul II, and Becoming What You Are

“How does she do it all?” It’s a phrase I have found myself saying many times, when other women amaze me by sewing their children’s clothes (I can barely stitch a button on), growing their own produce (I can’t seem to keep a plant alive), and doing a host of other things at which I …

Ten Reasons to Be Filled With Hope

In the moment of receiving the Sacrament of Baptism, our soul receives many extraordinary gifts, among which are the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity. The Holy Name of God

According to Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the recently-passed Chief Exorcist of Rome, who has performed tens of thousands of exorcisms, demons generally do not and cannot say holy names.  Instead, they call Jesus “he” or “your Boss.”  If our most abhorrent spiritual enemies shudder at the idea of speaking the holy name of God, why then …
